Quantum Computing Basics
Quantum Computing Basics in Technical Theatre – JAM™ Apprenticeship Competency Summary
The Quantum Computing Basics module introduces apprentices to foundational quantum principles and their emerging applications across technical theatre disciplines. Apprentices will explore quantum bits (qubits), superposition, and entanglement, and examine how these concepts intersect with real-time processing in lighting control systems, immersive audio environments, and high-resolution video rendering. Through hands-on simulations and scenario-based learning, apprentices will gain insight into how quantum algorithms may optimize signal routing, projection mapping, and robotic stage automation in future-ready performance spaces.
Competency development focuses on integrating quantum-informed thinking into creative workflows, including secure media transmission (quantum cryptography), generative content creation, and adaptive system design. Apprentices will demonstrate the ability to articulate quantum computing’s potential impact on live production, assess its implications for cybersecurity in digital performance ecosystems, and prototype speculative applications that bridge quantum logic with theatrical storytelling, robotics, and interactive media.
